For the selection of candidates for Group 2 and Group 2A posts in the state of Tamil Nadu, TNPSC or Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has made some changes now.
According to an official release, it is clear that the changes would reflect the demands and suggestions from various secretary-level officers and department heads over a period of years. Point to be noted is those working in the TN government must have high proficiency in the Tamil language in translating and drafting notes plus in preparing files etc.
It is now brought out that for the ‘Preliminary Exams’ there would not be any change in the syllabus but the units related to History and culture of TN, socio-political movements and Tamil development would be given additional weightage namely to the units 8 and 9 in the Preliminary exams.
By the end of the month of November, model question paper with these changes would be uploaded on the TNPSC website. It is said that enough time would be given for the candidates to assimilate this new pattern of examination.
Information gathered is the main written examination would have 2 parts. It is revealed that the part A (qualifying paper) of the main examination would be for one and a half hours for 100 marks. The candidates must get at least 25 marks and then only part B or paper 2 would be evaluated.
An important point to be noted is the marks got in this preliminary examination would not be considered in assigning the ranks for the candidates in the TNPSC rank list. It must be noted that those candidates who know to read and write Tamil would have a better chance of getting into the state services. The question paper would be set on par with the SSLC standard.
For the purpose of rank, marks obtained in paper 2 (3 hours exam of 300 marks) alone would be considered. It is said that the rest of the syllabi already set for paper 2 would remain. The important point is these would have ensured that the TNPSC examinees know history of Tamil language, literature, and culture from Sangam Age to the current times.
