The residents belonging to places like Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-vi-ka-Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Teynampet etc could feel happy now. The reason is the piped supply of water has been increased by the metro water department or MWD in these core places.  It must be taken into account that the free supply of water in 2000 litres and 3000 litres has been stopped now.

It was later mentioned by an official belonging to the MWD that last week government itself had announced that it would increase the piped water supply from the existing 525 million litres a day or mld to 650 million litres a day. Small tanker services provide water to those in the small narrow streets is known. It is worthy to note that the small tanker services were stopped and the increased water supply was announced.

The official later threw light on how the demand for paid water supply has come down as many as 5 times in many places in Chennai. He concluded that these had allowed them to increase the piped water supply.

Point to be noted is in an important locality like Adyar, free supply and paid supply meant as many as 1500 water tankers trip in a day and it is said that just 850 trips are made now. From 40 mld till the month of September, Adyar zone is presently getting 50 mld. The water supply duration has gone up from existing 2 hours to 4 hours.

All the houses now would get adequate water supply due to increased water supply. This was as per anther official belonging to the MWD. There were some complaints from the people at the tail end of the streets that they were not getting enough piped water. It is now brought out that these houses are also getting enough piped water supply.

Till the arrival of monsoons, 8 mld of water was distributed through pipes in Thiru-vi-ka Nagar and now this has increased to 20 mld. On the designated supply days, residents in this locality get 2 hours of water. The bore wells here have started to provide water after the rains and the demand for the water tankers have come down. This was revealed by an official of MWD. It must be noted that these bore wells were lying dry since the month of February-March. Information is in Anna Nagar the piped water supply has been increased from 60 mld to 80 mld now.
