As per the present thought-lines, playing sports is considered always as an ‘additional’ skill. It has never been considered as an integral part of the education.
However, in a turn of thought-line, the central Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Kiran Rijju has informed:
‘Henceforth, sports will have a prominent role in the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) syllabus.
The Prime Minister has already created a separate portfolio for Sports Education.
As per the revised education policy, sport is a part of the CBSE syllabus. So we are clear that sport must not be considered as an additional skill.
As this is implemented with sport being an integral part of the education syllabus, there would be a hugely welcome change in the future and India would grow to be a super-power in the arena of sports!’
