An Officer of the Corporations informed that help would be extended to the applicants of getting a 2-wheeler and the driving licence under the ‘Amma 2-wheeler Scheme’ to obtain the required documents and the driving licence or the Income certificate.
The Late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa declared the scheme of subsidy of 50% for 2-wheelers for the working women to facilitate them buy a 2-wheeler. Accordingly, while buying a 2-wheeler of maximum 125 cc capacity, a subsidy of either 50% of the cost of Rs.25000 whichever is lesser will be offered. For the differently-abled persons who would require additional wheels, a maximum subsidy of Rs. 31250 would be offered under this scheme.
As per this arrangement, funds have been allotted for issuing the subsidy to 9519 women who reside in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro City Corporation. Out of this, there is a quota of 4% - 391 women who are differently-abled to whom the subsidy will be given.
Accordingly, the subsidy was given to 9138 women during the year 2017-18.
Subsequently, the task of issuing subsidies for the year 2018-19 is under progress. So far, 6000 women have applied. It has been informed that the applications must be submitted before 15th November.
In this situation, the Chennai Metro City Corporation administration has decided to extend the maximum help in this regard for the applicants to get the Income Tax Certificate and the driving Licence.

Most of the applicants for the Amma 2-wheeler scheme apply without either the driving licence or the learner licence. They do not attach the income certificate as well. Now, the Chennai Metro City Corporation has come forward to help them in this regard.
Accordingly, the application-receiving staff has been informed not to reject the application submitted without the above-mentioned documents.
In order to expedite the applicant to get the driving licence and other documents, the Chennai Metro City Corporation will join with the State Government Departments of Transport and Revenue. This would help expedite the receipt of required documents for the applicants.
