The big onion is transported from other states such as Andhra, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka to the Erode Daily Market for sales.
Due to the recent incessant rains, the quantity of onions arriving here has come down from 150 tons every day to just 15 tons. This has led to an increase in onion prices. At Erode, onion was being sold on retail at Rs. 100 per kg and above!
This sky-high price has forced the domestic families and the hoteliers to avoid onion in their preparations!
