Belgian Consulate in Chennai

The Belgian Consul General in Mumbai Karl Van den Bossche announced that there will be a Belgian Consulate in Chennai by the end of next year.
Speaking at the launch of the visa application centre in Chennai, he said, ‘(I am) hopeful of getting the new consulate up and running by the end of this year. There are a lot of permissions and approvals to be procured from the Ministry of External Affairs and setting up a Consulate will be an expensive affair, given the price of realty here… We haven’t begun scouting for locations yet, but that is something we will have to do when everything is set. For now, with a separate visa application centre in Gopalapuram, we can save space at the upcoming consulate premises.
‘Chennai is a business-oriented city and there is a huge administrative advantage in having a Consulate here.’
