On Wednesday, the flight schedules in Chennai city were affected and this led to many issues for the passengers. It is revealed that smog (smoke and fog combined) in Delhi and air congestion in Delhi and Mumbai have been cited as the reasons for this impact in the flight schedule in Chennai.
It must be noted that around 10 flights to Delhi were delayed and total 20 flights including departures and arrivals to other destinations also were affected. The cascading effect has been cited as the reason now. An official belonging to the airport mentioned about how the congestion at Delhi and in Mumbai affected domestic schedules at many airports. It is worthy to mention that out of a total 10 flights 5 departures were between 6 am and 1 pm. Point is other routes the aircraft were supposed to fly also suffered delays due to late departure of the flights.
Morning flights from Chennai to places like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Jaipur and evening flights to Madurai and Coimbatore got delayed from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It must be taken into account that 4 flights to Bengaluru, 2 flights to Mumbai, 2 flights to Kochi, one flight to Kolkata and one flight to Jaipur were delayed. The congestion in Mumbai caused the delay of the flight to Mumbai.
From 6 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm, delayed flights were scheduled. It is brought out that the information regarding the ground delay and the air congestion was passed on to other airports. As per some sources of AAI, delay of the flights has been informed to the passengers. As the number of flights between Mumbai and Delhi is high, Mumbai is also getting affected.
