Eating right types of foods is very important for health!!
In the future, if you visit the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital or RGGGH in Chennai, you would be surprised to see certain new types of food items like varagu idly, thinai idly, green gram sundal etc at its canteens, mess etc.
The sensational piece of news is RGGGH would offer healthy menu options at the canteens and mess outlets at its premises. These would include healthy and traditional food items. It is brought out that the hospital had made suggestions of healthy recipes and has asked the outlets to choose from 5 healthy snacks, 5 meals and 10 beverages.
It is well known that 14th November is the ‘World Diabetes Day’ and the dean of RGGGH, Dr R. Jayanthi, spoke about how they decided to introduce healthy food options at various canteens, restaurants and student’s mess at the hostels as a part of ‘Eat Right Movement’. Therefore, all the eateries on the premises would have healthy food choices and this would be in line with the motto.
It must be taken into account that the outlets in RGGGH would soon have millet-based food items because the health of the people is very important. Information is these millet-based food items would be offered in addition to the regular food items. The dean later revealed that the details of the calories and proteins present in these food items were also provided.
Various healthy food items that would be sold are varagu idly, thinal idly, green gram sundal, roasted ragi puttu, samai pongal, multi millet sprouts, kollu chutney, millet chicken biriyani, kollu rasam, mint juice and sukku malli coffee etc.
At the ‘Red Fort’ building in MMC, Chennai, The Institute of Diabetology of RGGGH, observed ‘World Diabetes Day’ by organizing a ‘Diabetic Food Festival’. For the UG medical students, a diabetes exhibition competition was conducted.
It is important to mention that the teams prepared and displayed models, charts and posters install. It must be noted that for the UG medical students and for the nursing students and patients in a separate category, the cooking competition was also organised.
