North Chennai and Broadway residents would feel delighted by this news!!

Seven years ago, Lone Square Park in Broadway was closed due to the metro rail construction work is known. The important information is this park would be opened again by the end of this month of November. This park was the green lung for the people belonging to Broadway and north Chennai is well known.

During the construction of 45 km phase-1, this park was one of the 4 parks that were taken over by the CMRL.

It is superb to mention that 83 saplings have been planted in this park and the park has been restored with facilities for visitors. These facilities include benches and walkways etc. At present, some final work is going on and this park would be opened in another 10 days. This was confirmed by an official of CMRL.

It is known that Lone Square Park is located on Prakasam Street opposite to Madras High Court.

The important point is this park was the only green lung in the locality in north Chennai that has many residential and commercial units. In the year 2013, this park was closed when construction tunnels between Washermenpet station and Mannady stations were underway. It must be taken into account that this park was turned into a construction site as CMRL used the space to cut and build cross passages in the tunnels between Washermenpet and Mannady.

For passenger evacuation during emergencies, cross passages were constructed. Information is the park was needed during the construction of cross passages for grouting. It is shocking that this park was in shambles even after the completion of tunnels and stations. The park had leftover construction materials etc. It was later revealed by a resident that many used to go for walks etc in this park. The closure of this park made many people unhappy as they found it tough to get away from the concrete jungle in which they lived.

It is important to note that Thiru-Vi-Ka Park in Shenoy Nagar, Nehru Park in PH Road and May Day Park in Chintadripet were also taken by CMRL during the construction of phase-1.
