In an attempt to overcome the competition from Ola and Uber in Chennai, as many as 25 drivers of app-based cab services have joined hands and launched their own service for the sake of people.
It is now said that within days of its launch, around 160 car and auto drivers have subscribed to D-Taxi. It is important to note here that there would be no surge pricing. Information is it is run by a co-operative society that is registered with the state industrial department in 2018.
To design a mobile app for the customers and drivers use, the co-operative society floated tenders and then the service was introduced on Monday. An amount of Rs 100 would be the registration fee and it is said that any taxi driver cum owner could enrol with D-Taxi if they have a commercial license.
Mr G. Balaji, the president later mentioned that the drivers would be able to take home whatever they have earned. A fixed amount as a fee of Rs 3000 per month must be paid by the drivers. He added that the users could pay only for the distance they had travelled and there would be no surge pricing in the peak hours.
Important information is for autos the base fare would be Rs 25 for the first 1.8 km and Rs 12 for every kilometre travelled and there would be waiting charge of 30 paise per minute. The base fare would be Rs 30 and Rs 12.50 to Rs 13 per km after that and this would be for the sedan cars and hatchback or small cars. It would be Rs 150 as base fare for XUVs and the rate per km would be Rs 18 to Rs 19.
With the help of app available on Google Play Store, short trips and long trips/ outstation trips could also be booked by the people.
