Chennai city has been getting rains now and this has brought good inflow at the reservoirs. It is now said that Chennai’s Metro Water Department or MWD is planning to increase piped water supply for the residents.
On Tuesday, the storage levels reached a comfortable position with combined levels of 4547 mcft. Information got is Somaseela reservoir belonging to AP is also full of water now and AP government has been releasing water regularly. It was revealed by an official that their department had asked for the supply of 2 tmc. He hinted that 6 tmc of water would be released as the reservoir in AP is brimming now.
It is important to note that by the present storage of water it would be possible to supply water to Chennai till the month of July 2020. Chennai city’s monthly need is 1 tmc is known. The water requirements are being supplemented by rains plus other sources such as Veeranam, desalination plants and wells etc.
