Many crimes against women have been taking place in recent times and many efforts are being taken by the police department to stop or reduce these crimes. To prevent crimes taking place against women, Kavalan app has been developed by the TN state police department is well known.

This ‘Kavalan’ mobile app is grabbing the attention of many now.  It is known that this app has a red button and by pressing this button a distress call would be sent to the nearby police station. Then, the police personnel would arrive at the spot to help the woman in distress.

Just recently, a veterinary doctor was sexually abused in the city of Hyderabad and it was spoken by many. The point to be noted is in the light of this incident DGP of TN Mr J.K. Tripathy had ordered all his subordinates to create awareness about this ‘Kavalan’ app. He wanted speedy measures to be taken whenever the call is received in this mobile app. Important information is if speedy measures are not taken by the police then stern action would be taken against them.

A circular from the DGP had stated that instead of checking for the authenticity of the call the policemen must visit the spot immediately and communicate the update to the senior police officer. It also mentioned how the police officers receiving distress calls should not worry about jurisdiction that might delay the help for the victim. Information is awareness must be created about this mobile application among the general public especially women, children, differently able persons, and senior citizens.

Director-General of Police Mr Tripathy later told the police personnel to advertise and create awareness in schools, colleges, women hostels, and at public gathering places etc. Utilizing this mobile app is very important and people must download it and use it in the times of emergency.

He explained that creating awareness among people and others including women about ‘Kavalan’ mobile app was not a onetime measure and it must be a continuous process. He concluded that the senior police officers might review it periodically and render advice.
