The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has announced the cancellation of the order of the local election released earlier. It will also withdraw all the officials deployed on this front.

The State Election Commission had earlier announced the local elections for the posts of Panchayat Councillor, administration chief, and the ward members on 2nd December. However, the dates for the election of District councillor had not been announced and this caused great confusion.

Subsequently, the political party DMK submitted a petition to the High Court that the quota system must be adhered to and the wards have to be set up in the newly formed districts and then only the local elections must be conducted.

This petition was taken up for enquiry yesterday (Friday, 6th December) and the judges gave the verdict that local elections may be conducted except 9 districts.

In this situation, the state election commission cancelled the announced election order dates.

The Secretary of the Election Commission, Subramanian, has officially announced the cancellation and the officials deployed on this front will be withdrawn.
