The news that has emerged out is the state government is planning to allow all the sub-register offices in a particular registration district to handle assets that fall under its jurisdiction. By this, the property registration would become easier in TN.

In the past, the sub-register offices could process only those properties that come under respective jurisdiction is known. It must be noted that TN having 37 revenue districts is divided to 50 registration districts and Chennai zone is divided into registration districts encompassing Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur revenue districts.

It is now said that the Chennai zone would be the biggest beneficiary as this zone accounts for 45% of total revenue generated in TN through property transactions.

Superb information is residents who might have to travel 30 km from core city places for registering properties located on the outskirts could register their properties at the sub-registrar office near their houses. People belonging to places like Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur would be benefited more as the jurisdictional limit of Kancheepuram district registrar office covers the entire Tiruvallur district. It is worthy to note that cross-registration of properties from one registration district to another would not be permitted. As per the official of the registration department, the proposal is under the consideration of TN government.
