Many campaigns carried out by the police department, to bring about awareness regarding the ‘Kavalan’ app and to make many people know about the importance of this app, have become successful now. Information collected now is over one lakh persons have downloaded the ‘Kavalan’ SOS app in just 4 days after these campaigns.
To reach out to the women, the police department is taking many efforts now. Recently, in Hyderabad, a veterinary doctor was sexually abused and this caught the attention of many all over India is known.
Queen Marys College is a popular college for women in Chennai. Police commissioner Mr Viswanathan took part in an awareness programme at this college. He spoke about the need for the girls to download ‘Kavalan’ SOS app and use it in the times of emergency. He added that the girls could utilise the SOS facility to alert the police department and get help in case of physical assault, abduction attempts etc.
Mr Viswanathan later threw light on how a software engineer Lavanya who was attacked near Perumbakkam in 2018 had utilized this app and how police personnel rushed to the spot and helped her to reach the hospital. It must be noted that all kinds of help would be provided by the police to the women in distress and if unsafe women could alert the police by this Kavalan app.
Point is police in amma patrol vehicles would reach the spot in the correct time to help the women. On the Rajiv Gandhi Salai in Chennai, similar campaigns took place.
