The Managing Director of Chennai Metro Transport Corporation (MTC) has announced that a new device is being fitted in the Chennai Metro City buses to announce the location name of the coming bus stops.
The Tamil Nadu State Government Department of Transport has been introducing various facilities to provide safer, faster, and comfortable travel for its passengers.
As a part of this effort, the state minister for transport had announced while submitting the proposal for required subsidies for this department in the year 2018-18 that the audio facility to announce the coming bus stop will be provided in Madurai city buses. Accordingly, a trial run was taken installing the device operating on the GPS facility to announce the subsequent bus stops. This has met with a huge popular response from the public.
This facility is especially useful when the buses are over-crowded to enable the passenger to know and get down the destination bus stop managing the inside crowd.
Following this grand success of this operation in Madurai, the state transport minister had ordered a trial-run to be undertaken by installing the device/facility in the Chennai Metro City buses as well!
Accordingly, this facility has been introduced in 75 buses in routes where the new buses are operating: Thiruvotriyur-Poonamallee, Koyambedu-Kenambakkam, Anna Square-Poonamallee, etc.
This new device has been designed to announce the next bus stop 100 metres ahead of the stop.
As a result, the passengers alighting will get ready taking their belongings and get down. This facility saves valuable time as well!
Further, with the advertisement contracts played in the above device along with the announcement about the successive bus stops, earns monthly revenue of Rs. 1200 per month per bus.
Based on the public/passenger response, this facility would be gradually introduced in all the routes operated in the Chennai Metro City!
