A new website has been launched on the internet by the Chennai Metro City Corporation to buy and sell solid waste materials which can be recycled and thus reusable.
All solid garbage materials are collected in the Chennai Metro City on a daily basis by the Department of Solid Waste Management, functioning under the Chennai Metro City Corporation
To facilitate the public and recycling entrepreneurs/enthusiasts be aware easily about the collected garbage details as above, regarding the recyclable part and quantity, etc., a new website www.madraswasteexchange.com has been launched by the Chennai Metro City Corporation.
In his inaugural address launching this website, Commissioner Prakash mentioned:
‘Around 5220 tons of solid material garbage is being collected daily by the Chennai Metro City Corporation. Out of the 1083 tons of bio-degradable garbage, fertilizers, bio-methane, gas containers, etc., are being manufactured.
Contracts are proposed to give to the private and public agencies/enterprises to handle the dry garbage items such as waste-wood, coconut-shells, etc., weighing about 400 tons
Further, the recyclable plastic garbage is collected and given to the recycling entrepreneurs.
The rest of the garbage is managed by the incineration centres. Around 300 tons of garbage is being handled daily in this centre.
Arrangements have been made for the public and the recycling entrepreneurs and enthusiasts to register on the above website and buy/sell the above waste materials.
This service can be availed through the Android App. With the introduction of this service, it is expected that traders of the scrap iron and other materials and waste papers will benefit from a great deal. Also, more job opportunities will be created. At the same time, pollution of the environment and land will be avoided/reduced.’
Assistant Commissioner Madhusudhan Reddy, Chief Engineer Mahesan, and Superintending Engineer Veerappan and other dignitaries participated in the event.
