The Chennai city is now entering a dry spell and as a result of this Chennai would get reduced rainfall from Tuesday, 17th December onwards.

It is well known that in this monsoon season there has been no major storm but Chennai got a good amount of rains. The water levels in the 4 major reservoirs that supply water to Chennai people have been maintained well now due to the rains.

Beginning from 1st October to 16th December 2019, TN received 6% excess rains whereas Chennai got 14% deficient rainfall. It is worthy to mention that the core city where the 3 weather stations are located (Nungambakkam, DGP Office and Anna University) might not have got excess rains but suburbs like Tambaram received abundant rains.

It has been predicted that the condition of the sky would be generally cloudy in Chennai for the next 2 days with light rain in some places. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 23 degrees Celsius.

It was mentioned by the meteorological department that there would be heavy rains in isolated places over south TN. Chennai based weather blogger Mr Pradeep John, pointed out that the dry spell would be till 25th December and then easterlies would return back to bring rains.
