Xmas holidays advanced by Madras University now

Students belonging to Madras University or MU would feel delighted now.

The news is on Tuesday MU had declared holidays to all its departments till 23rd of December. This was after the protests by the students against CAA or Citizenship Amendment Act.

It is now said that this announcement of holidays till 23rd has effectively advanced Christmas holidays as MU is scheduled to close on 24th December and reopen on 1st January 2020. The MU has asked various departments to postpone the examinations after 1st of January 2020.

An official of MU spoke about how the MU would function and just the classes have been suspended to diffuse the situation. On Tuesday, more than 100 students belonging to various departments of MU protested at the Chepauk campus against CAA and in solidarity of the students belonging to Jamia Millia Islamia of New Delhi. The MU students raised slogans against the union government and Delhi police and did not disburse.

A protesting student explained about how in the CAA the centre had deliberately left out the Sri Lankan Tamils in TN for the past 4 decades. Important piece of information is students belonging to popular colleges in Chennai such as New College, The Quaide Milleth College for Men, MCC, Presidency College and School of Excellence in Law, took part in the protests condemning police action against the students. Later, a student belonging to School of Excellence in Law revealed how they wanted to express their solidarity with the students who were attacked by the police.
