The Chennai Metro City Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that the coconut fibre removed from coconuts and tender coconuts will be supplied free!

Greater Chennai Corporation has been taking several initiatives to segregate the collected garbage into different sorts.

Bio-degradable garbage items are used to produce manures/fertilizers and fuel gas.

Recyclable waste is identified and separated.

In another effort, it was decided to produce coconut fibres from the coconuts and tender coconuts. This has been taken up successfully. Presently, coconut fibre is being produced at the Ward $ 170, under Adyar Zone, located at Arulayampettai, Guindy.

In Chennai, there is a substantial collection of the tender coconut refuse every day. However, fibre cannot be prepared for this. This can be used as a manure/fertilizer for plants and trees. Plants can be grown on a mixture of the waste tender coconut fibre, sand and fertilizer.

Further, the fibre is especially used for retaining the moisture content of the water used for trees including coconut trees.

A stock of more than 2 tonnes of coconut fibre is available at Guindy now.

The Greater Chennai Corporation Officials informed that the interested parties requiring this fibre can contact the Ward Engineer and take it free.
