10 most important aspects: FASTag for cars

The FASTag mode of making tollgate charges was introduced in the year 2014. Now, it is all set to be implemented throughout the country from 15th January.

The deadline set earlier was 15th December and this was extended until 15th January due to some technical and procedural snags.

1. How to procure FASTag cards?

FASTag cards can be procured from the websites of all banks, Amazon, Flipkart, and Paytm  Mall. Apart from these avenues, FASTag can be procured from sales offices of banks, toll-gates, service centres, toll-gate control centres, some petrol bunks, and the Zonal of Offices of the National Highways Department.

2. What documents are required?

FASTag card must be linked to the bank account. So, All related KYC (Know Your Customer) documents are required. While applying for procuring RC (Registration Certificate), the application for FASTag must also be submitted.

3. What is the 1-time payment for paying FASTag charges?

The price for the Tag is Rs. 100. Rs. 200 must be paid as a deposit. This is the payment for the 1-time. Once this amount is deducted from the bank account, it has to be recharged again. The minimum top-up amount is Rs. 200.

4. How to top-up?

Recharging can be done using credit/debit cards, NEFT, RTGS, or Net Banking, UPI and cheques. This can be verified in the net-banking account. The App ‘My FASTag’ can be downloaded on the cell and linking it with the bank account that is linked with FASTag or by creating the wallet, recharge can be done.

5. What is the time limit for the FASTag validity?

FASTag is given unlimited validity. However, it is essential that enough balance must be kept in the bank account.

6. Is it ok to use old FASTag?

For the vehicles bought after 2017, the linked FASTag will be valid. Details may be submitted to the concerned bank and FASTag can be renewed. In case it is misplaced/lost, the Highway Service centre numbers can be contacted and FASTag can be procured again.

7. How to confirm the amount paid to the toll-gates?

Every time the toll-gate charge is paid, the amount will be debited to the bank savings account. This will be informed via SMS to the cell number given. The balance amoununt in the FASTag will also be informed.

8. What if there is a cash shortage while undertaking long-distance travel?

Contact the bank service centre numbers or visit the bank’s website and get the required details/assistance.

9. Is it possible to transfer the account from one bank to another?

Presently, this facility is NOT available. If interested in linking the FASTag to a newly opened bank account, there is a need to cancel the already used FASTag completely and procure a new FASTag card and link it with the new account.

10. What if a person drives a vehicle owned/registered by one of the relatives?

It is essential to be thorough with the related RC Book details. The mobile number and the bank account must be linked to it!
