On Sunday, 22nd December 2019, people belonging to the Chennai city protested at places like Chepauk, Triplicane and Besant Nagar by shouting slogans of unity. The people showed their collective opposition to the CAA or Citizen Amendment Act.

It must be noted that on Sunday afternoon small roads leading to Elliot’s Beach were sealed with barricades for few hours of time. This was done after around 300 people assembled to protest. There were many people who protested outside the bus depot for nearly 2 hours as the police personnel refused permission.

Under the banner titled ‘Citizens Against CAA’ the protest was conducted and there were many students, IT employees and homemakers etc. A social activist named Radhika Ganesh explained about how the protest was not to show any aggression but to show the democratic rights of a person.

She added that police personnel had taken their names of those who were involved in the protests and a case would be filed against them. It was later brought out by a student that the protest was not an aggressive one but was a peaceful one. It must be noted that the protests against CAA did not affect the beach crowd and many people came to the beach with their families and friends.

The important information collected is 500 members belonging to Masjid Quereshiya Jamat having more than 30 mosques, members from 20 temples and Muslims of Triplicane protested carrying the national flag and this took place in Chepauk.

It was later brought out by a protestor that there was no necessity to prove that they belong to India. Slogans were raised against CAA and atleast 100 members belonging to different Muslim organisations made their presence felt outside Triplicane mosque. It must not be forgotten that on 12th December 2019 Citizen Amendment Act or CAA was enacted into the law and this has resulted in many protests across India.
