Northeast monsoon seasonal rains were in Chennai 17% less than average!

The Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre Puviyarasan informed that here are prospects for light to medium rains in South Tamil Nadu due to cyclonic format prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

He explained further:

There are prospects for heavy rains in Nagappattinam, Thanjavur, Thioruvarur, Pudhukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts.

As the wind speed is likely to increase, he warned that fishermen should refrain from venturing into the sea in the Kanyakumari district. He indicated that wind seed may be from 45 kmph to 55 kmph in the Kanyakumari ocean zone.

Further, the northeast monsoon rainfall this year is 17% lesser as compared to the average expected rainfall.

Rainfall has been lesser in Puducherry by 33%, Perambalur 28%, and Vellore, 26%.

In the last 24 hours, the maximum rainfall of 1 cm has bee recorded in Valparai, Coimbatore District.

Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. Maximum temperature will be 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 22 Degrees Celsius.
