The offence of drunken driving will lead to no issue of passport/visa!

With the fast-approaching New Year and the usually associated frenzy of welcoming the New Year, the Police Department has strictly warned the stringent activities will be taken on the offence of drunken driving to the extent of non-issue of passport/visa!

There are only 5 more days to go before the dawn of the New Year!

So, a review meeting was conducted by the Police Department with the Chennai Metro City Police Commissioner presiding. All senior police officials including the Additional Commissioners participated in this meeting regarding the various security precautionary activities to be undertaken and organised.

During the meeting, an important decision was taken to deploy 15000 police staff headed by the Additional Police Commissioners.

A decision was taken to set up vehicle checking centres in over 300 locations within the Chennai Metro City in 12 Police district limits including Mylapore, Kilpauk, Triplicane, T, Nagar, Adyar, and St. Thomas Mount.

Further, in case of the occurrence of accidents, 25 Road Safety Squads would be deployed. In order to arrest people who indulge in bike racing, 20 ‘Flying Squads’ will be deployed.

In addition, the police department has decided to set up temporary shamianas (tents) in all the important roads in the Chennai Metro City to monitor the vehicle movements.

In order to prevent crimes against women and children, a special patrolling squad has been formed.

Patrolling vehicles which can be driven in the beach sands and also a squad of horse-mounted police would be deployed for monitoring the popular beach locations in the city - Marina, Santhome, Elliots, and Neelankarai.

Driving Licence of the people who are caught for drunken driving on the occasion of the New Year would be cancelled. The vehicle would be confiscated.  Further, activities will be initiated to non-issue of passport/visa for such offenders!
