Many people use Egmore railway station to go to their places of destination.

Important news is the passengers who board trains and get down from the trains in this station are at huge risk due to the presence of yawning gap between the platform and train on few platforms.

The point to be noted is some remodelled platforms and trains do not align well though renovation of platforms is going on at the station. The passengers are finding it difficult to board the trains or get down from the train with luggage.

A gap of more than one foot between the door of the train and the platform shocked many passengers of sleeper coaches 1to 4 of Ananthapuri express (Trivandrum to Chennai). Many senior citizens faced trouble in getting down with luggage because of fear of falling in the gap between train and platform and this happened on Saturday morning.

A passenger who frequently travelled in this route spoke his heart out. He expressed his surprise regarding the huge gap between train and platform. He spoke about the work that was going on to relay the surface. The passenger explained how the dug-up platform was an inconvenience after getting down from the train with huge effort. The point he stressed was the risk when the people boarded the train with baggage in hurry.

The shocking information is few years ago at the Central railway station a passenger who was trying to get into an unreserved coach of an express train fell into the gap and got injured because the train started moving. It must be taken into account that in the month of July in 2019 a passenger was caught in the gap while alighting at Madurai railway station. The alignment was poor and this was according to some passengers. It has been brought out by some officials that the gap would be reduced once the platform surface is paved.

It was later revealed by a regular passenger that the mismatch in alignment was an issue with MEMU trains that operated on Vellore to Beach route. He then threw light on the floor of the coach that was higher than the platform. At the curves on the platform, the gap was wider and this has been confirmed by an official. He added that the gap was of standard and safe width when the platform was straight. Information is steps would be taken to minimize impact on the passengers.
