In the southern part of Chennai is located Nanganallur that is famous for the temples. This Nanganallur is making news now.
Many residents belonging to places like Vanuvampet, Nanganallur, Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam and Moovarsampet are finding it difficult to go from their places to the busy Anna Salai now.
There has been a drastic reduction in the MTC bus services from these places to Anna Salai and the residents have to depend on the other modes of transport to reach their offices present in and off Anna Salai. In the past, the residents took bus numbers 52K and 52P to reach their offices in Anna Salai and these 2 routes used to cater to the office going population bound for Anna Salai.
It must be noted that the bus number 52K was stopped and bus number 52P was reduced from 4 buses to just 2 buses. This has made the lives of many office goers difficult as they had to wait for a longer time. This was later confirmed by a resident belonging to Nanganallur.
There are bad and narrow arterial roads in residential places like Nanganallur, Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam and Moovarasmpet. As a result, MTC has been finding it difficult to operate buses. It was brought out by some officials that traffic arrangements done for MRTS or Mass Rapid Transit System on the southern arm of IRR is responsible for heavy traffic congestion.
The residents now spend more on the share autos because of the reduction of several MTC bus services like 52K (Keelkattalai to Broadway), 76(Medavakkam Koottu Road to CMBT), B51 (Tambaram to T, Nagar via Nanganallur and M18C (Keelkattalai to T. Nagar). This was pointed out by a resident of Nanganallur who commutes by MTC. He then expressed his unhappiness about the non-availability of share autos from St Thomas Mount railway station.
According to some senior officials belonging to MTC, it was clear that poor patronage was responsible for the cutting off some bus routes.
The important information is the need for increasing the MTC bus services to the central business district of Anna Salai would be studied and the necessary steps would be taken.
