It has become a usual sight to see the people indulging in some notorious activities in Chennai and in other places at the time of New Year. The truth is at this time of New Year, the people would be in a happy and joyous mood. For the smooth New Year celebrations, the Chennai city police have made some elaborate arrangements.
Information is on the bandobust duty there would be approximately 15,000 police personnel. Across 368 places in Chennai city, there would be checking of vehicles done by these policemen. The main objective is to control the party-goers.
According to Mr Prem Anand Sinha, additional commissioner of police, hotels and resorts have been given instructions to follow license conditions in a strict manner. He added that the guests inside the premises would be checked and the organizers would frisk all the guests when they enter the premises. He concluded that any suspicious movement would be informed to the police.
All the flyovers would be closed for traffic ahead of the New Year celebrations in Chennai. Policemen would also keep an eye on those who indulge in motorcycle races and the revellers would be prevented to take part in the bike races etc. This was confirmed by Mr Arun, additional commissioner of police (Traffic). Important information is drunken drivers would be booked and their licenses would be cancelled.
Mr Arun later explained how those who were booked for drunken driving would face difficulty in getting no-objection certificates and how their details would go to the Crime Records Bureau. For the sake of creating awareness about road safety, as many as 25 road safety groups would move in 2 wheelers.
In important places like Adyar, Taramani, Neelankarai, Thoraipakkam, Guindy, Maduravoyal bypass, ORR and GST Road etc, 25 police squads would be on duty to prevent motorcycle races and to grab the notorious elements. There would be adequate bandobust arrangements near temples, churches, mosques etc in Chennai. On the beaches of Marina, Santhome, Elliots and Neelankarai etc, all terrain vehicles would be deployed. There would also be drone cameras to monitor the overcrowded places in Chennai.
