Traffic regulations are being changed for the occasion of the New Year celebrations in the Chennai Metro City localities of Marina Beach and Besant Nagar beach.
A notification released by the Department of Transport under the Chennai Metro Police mentions:
‘On the occasion of the celebrations for the New Year, certain changes have been carried out in the localities of Marina Beach and Elliots Brach for the 1 night on Tuesday, 31st December.
All the interior routes will be blocked with barriers during the night on 31st December. And vehicles entering this zone will not be allowed to proceed. All the vehicles parked in the interior beach road will be allowed to go out only via the route behind the Light House.
In the Kamarajar Salai, vehicles would not be allowed to ply from Gandhi Statue to the War Memorial from 8.00 PM on Tuesday, 31st December to 4.00 AM on Wednesday, New Year Day.
The junctions meeting Kamarajar Salsi such as Lloyds Road, Besant Road, Ayodhi Nagar, Sunguwal Street, Bharathi Road, Wallaja Road, and Swami Sivananda Road will all be blocked with barriers and will not allow vehicles.
The vehicles coming from the Reserve Bank subway and Wallaja junction moving towards War Memorial will be diverted via Poonamallee High Road and Anna Salai from 8.00 PM on Tuesday, 31st December.
Similarly, the vehicles from Adyar can move towards Anna Salai via Kutchery Road, Santhome High Road Junction, Luz Junction, Royappettah High Road, and Music Academy.
The vehicles moving from Dr Radhakrishnan Road, Lloyds Road, Besant Road, Bharathi Road, Wallaja Road, Adams Road, Flagpole Road (Kodimarathu Salai), and War Memorial will not be allowed to enter Kamarajar Salai after 8.00 PM on Tuesday, 31st December.
Vehicles may be parked at the Queen Mary’s College Complex, Swami Sivananda Salai, (one side), Chepauk Railway Station vehicle parking complex, Lloyds Road Railways Station vehicle Parking complex, and one side of Dr Besant Road.
Changes in Eliots Road
Vehicles would not be allowed on the 6th Avenue of Besant Eliots Beach from 8.00 PM on 31st December, Tuesday. This will prolong until 4.00 AM the next day - Wednesday, 1st January.
The vehicles will be blocked and stopped at Besant Nagar 6th Avenue junction Roads 5th Avenue, 4th Main Road, 3rd Main Road, and 16th Cross Street. Vehicles will not be allowed to proceed to Velankanni Church from Mahatma Gandhi Road, 7th Avenue junction.
Vehicles may be parked at a part of the Besant Nagar 4th Avenue, a part of the 3rd Main Road, one side of the 4th Main Road, One side of the 5th Main Road, one side of 2nd Avenue, and one side of 3rd Avenue.
