6500 additional surveillance monitoring cameras to be set up in Chennai Metro City!

The Chennai Metro City Police Commission has decided to set up an additional 6500 surveillance monitoring cameras in 2000 locations under the Nirbhaya Scheme.

The Chennai Metro City Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan informed that the crimes during the year 2019 have come down as compared to the previous 3 years. In a session with the press, the Commissioner further shared:

The number of traffic accidents in 2019 is lesser by 1000 as compared to the previous year 2018 and 6871 traffic accidents have been recorded in 2019.

As for the loss of lives in road accidents, there were 1252 cases in 2019 as compared to 1297 cases in 2018. There were no deaths due to dowry issues in 2019. The hugely popular App, ‘Kavalan’ has been installed by over 10 lakh people. In a similar vein, the plan ‘Thozhi” (woman.girl friend) has also been immensely beneficial.

Further, in order to strengthen the security system especially for the women and children in the Chennai Metro City, an additional 6500 CCTVs are to be installed throughout the city. 2000 important locations to install them have already been decided.

In this context, it is a matter of pride that Chennai Metro City is reckoned as the safest place in the country!

Another matter of pride is that we have also won the best governance award for the state of Tamil Nadu.

To cap all above achievements, the Chennai Metro City Police Commission has also won the National level Scotch award for - installing the maximum number of CCTVs, introduction and implementation of e-challan penalty system,  and the cleanest Police Station!
