Metro trains in Chennai have made the travel comfortable and faster for the passengers is known. This has brought huge happiness for many metro train passengers. One main issue associated with the metro trains is getting the travel ticket at the metro stations.

It has been revealed by some commuters that the ticket vending machines or TVM present in the metro stations in Chennai have been slow and these machines reject the notes that were introduced after demonetization. There are also some TVM that do not work at all. It was brought out by a resident of Anna Nagar that these TVM reject some old currency notes also.

For the sake of encouraging the passengers to purchase tickets or top up smart cards on their own and to avoid long queues, TVM was introduced at the metro stations in Chennai.

The ticket issuing work has become more time consuming now with currency notes being rejected and the TVM becoming slower. Point to be noted is when the commuters going to the ticket counters after finding faulty TVMs the counter staffs insist in digital payment.

A regular commuter from T. Nagar expressed his unhappiness regarding TVM’s and the counter staffs and spoke about how he would get a travel ticket if he doesn’t carry card and ticket machines do not work. The software present in the TVMs is creating issues now for the passengers and efforts are taken to solve this issue as soon as possible. In this aspect, a Japan-based firm that manufactures these TVM’s has been contacted.

To accept new currency notes, the ticket vending machines were upgraded initially and to accept the dimensions of new notes software update was done. The size of the notes was found to be different when another new set of notes were introduced. This made the TVM’s to reject the notes.
