Don’t be surprised when you come across multi-function poles in many locations in the city of Chennai in the future.
It was revealed by the Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Mr G. Prakash that Chennai would get 50 multi-function poles in some important locations and these smart poles would have a rain gauge, public address system, camera and equipment to monitor pollution.
By the installation of multi-function smart poles, there would be better integration of key aspects and command and control. It is now said that more such multi-function smart poles would be installed depending up n the need in each locality. Data on the traffic at important roads would be collected by these smart poles.
The Chennai Corporation commissioner later threw light on the installation of 20,000 cameras in Chennai city and mentioned that these cameras would be the third eye for Chennai as they would monitor everything.
Encroachments along the roads would be monitored by means of cameras and they would be removed. In addition to this, all the garbage bins would be monitored.
To monitor pollution as well as illuminating the road in the night time, a smart pole has been installed near Ripon Buildings. This smart pole has got rain gauge, public address system, camera, equipment to monitor and the illumination of roads in the night. By means of a public address system, the corporation of Chennai would share information on civic welfare schemes, civic projects and disaster events etc.
Criminals would not be able to escape from the law and these criminals would be identified by facial recognition system present on these poles. This would be of huge benefit especially in commercial places like T. Nagar etc. Those persons who collapse on the roads would also be identified by the system and information would be sent to the command and control system for the ambulance.
