The colour of green is always superb for our eyes and it brings huge happiness.

If you have travelled to Chennai suburbs like Avadi, Poonamalle, Chitlapakkam and Tiruporur etc, then you would have been surprised by the sea of green colour (fields) around you. At this time in 2019, the same places had barren brownfields. It was because of the failure of the monsoons in 2018.

To make use of the rains in 2019, the farmers in these places have planted paddy. The rains in 2019 have made the wells and tanks full of water are known.

A total of 924 tanks are available in the districts of Kancheepuram and Chengalpet and it is now said that most of these tanks are full of water. Paddy and other crops have come up in these areas.

Across the Chitlapakkam, Kattankolathur and Tiruporur blocks of Chengalpet district, 3475 hectares of land are currently under crops and this is 500 acres more than in 2017. This was as per data from the agricultural department. It is known that in 2017 the suburbs got similar quantum of rains.

In the villages adjoining the city, in Tiruvallur district, the area under crop has been increased by a few thousand hectares. Farming (88% paddy and rest pulses, millets etc) were on full swing in places such as Avadi, Poonamalllee, Minjur, Sholavaram blocks spread across nearly 38,000 hectares. This was mentioned by official data recorded in 2019. Important information gathered is in the next 3 months the total area under cultivation would cross the 45800 acres recorded in 2016-17.

The suburbs of Chennai recorded the right amount of rainfall and as a result, there would be bumper harvest. The fact is the areas recorded a new high in the area under crop since the year 2015. It is known that in 2015 floods destroyed these lands.
