On Sunday evening, there was confusion among the motorists at the Anna Salai - Cenotaph Road junction and at Anna Salai-K.B. Dasan Road junction. The reason for that was the traffic police did not allow the motorists to turn right and reverted to old restrictions.
It must not be forgotten that on October 2019 the traffic police allowed right turn from these 2 junctions towards Teynampet on trial basis.
According to the traffic police, there were complaints regarding traffic piling up on both roads due to heavy flow of vehicles. As a result, from Saturday evening the old system was followed and vehicles cannot take a right turn at these important junctions. Barricades have been put up and motorists would be guided on where to take the U-turns.
It was later mentioned by a motorist that for taking U-turn vehicles from these two junctions would have to go to Nandanam junction. He threw light on the pile-up between Cenotaph junction and Nandanam junction. He wanted the traffic planning wing to find a solution for this issue.
According to a senior police officer, many vehicles wait for a right turn at these junctions and lead to a heavy pile up on these two stretches.
