For those who go for a morning walk on the Bogi day, please don’t forget to put on the mask!!
It is now revealed by some experts that the pollution level on the Bogi day especially PM 2.5 is likely to be more than double the normal levels. It is known that in Chennai people burn waste on this day. The smoke from fires on this day could lead to sickness in the people, delay flights and increase the road accidents etc.
In the year 2019 on the Bogi day the pollution levels were nearly three times the normal in some places in Chennai city. The average pollution levels in Chennai city were less when compared to the Bogi day in the year 2018.
As per TNPCB chairman, Mr A.V. Venkatachalam, it is clear that in 2019 awareness messages ad drives against plastic were responsible for the decrease in the pollution levels. He added that in this 2020 the plastics have come back to some households and as a result of that the pollution levels might be higher. He hinted about the various efforts taken to stop the people from burning waste by means of posters put up across 25 places in Chennai
