New sensory parks to come up at Valasaravakkam and Kotturpuram in Chennai

For encouraging sensitivity towards differently able children, Chennai Corporation is making huge efforts.

A year back, a sensory park at Santhome for the differently able kids was inaugurated under Centres Smart City programme is known.

The news is important residential places in Chennai like Valasarawakkam and Kotturpuram would also have sensory parks. It is said that the Chennai city corporation has got plans to set up sensory parks in the above-mentioned places in Chennai. The new sensory parks would be making their presence felt in Sakthi Nagar in Valasarawakkam and in Kottur Gardens in Kotturpuram. An amount of Rs 3.5 crores would be spent on these 2 parks.

Tenders have been floated and the construction work would begin in a few months. It was later mentioned by an official that there has been a positive response about the facilities at Santhome sensory park. The facilities at the sensory park at Santhome have been appreciated and Chennai corporation was awarded by the Smart Cities Council is known.

The visually challenged as well as physically challenged children need certain requirements and the sensory park at Santhome was designed based on the requirements. This park is present over 1500 sq m of land and is sensational. The sensory pathways, wheelchair friendly play areas and play equipment in this sensory park has been appreciated by many. For the sake of visually challenged kids, there is a 150 sq ft wall painted with Braille and embossed for touch and feel for these kids.

An official later spoke about how these sensory parks would encourage sensitivity towards differently able children. He hinted that the new sensory parks would also have wheelchair-friendly sandpits and children would be able to build sandcastles. The new sensory parks would also have flower and herb gardens, many playing equipments and wheelchair friendly basketball court.
