The works on the rail over bridge or ROB on the station road near Velachery station has been re-started by the southern railways.
This ROB runs parallel to the tracks or MRTS from Velachery to Taramani stations is known. It is now said that once the work gets over the motorists would have easy access to OMR and ECR. This would definitely make many motorists happy. In addition to this, there would be decongestion of Vijayanagar junction at Velachery.
The delay in the execution of mini ROB near Velachery railway station has resulted in the in-completion of station road ROB. This was as per a senior official belonging to southern railways.
It is worthy to note that the RB would have 6 arms through which the rainwater would drain into Pallikaranai marsh. The work on the construction of 2 arms has been under progress. The poor soil condition had stalled the construction of the mini bridge.
The presence of clayey soil has led the concrete foundation to sink and as a result of that the construction was halted for several years is known. Near the construction site, huge concrete slabs are getting readied to fix this issue and once the foundation work of six spans gets finished then the concrete slabs would be fixed over the arms. Later on, the road would be paved.
40 percent of the ROB has been completed by the southern railways and the remaining works are being speeded up. It was in the year 2009 work on the ROB for about 4km was started for the purpose of providing easy connectivity between the 3 stations. The residents want the railways to improve the lighting on the road and currently, station road does not have any street lights.
