In the future, more trains would be operated from Tambaram towards Vijayawada via Beach and Gummidipoondi!! Sound’s incredible isn’t it!!
It is now brought out that the railway board has approved a proposal to develop a fourth railway line between Egmore and Beach and it would be superb for many commuters.
The development of 4.3 km line is a part of up-gradation of Tambaram as the third terminal after Central and Egmore. For location surveying work, railways had allotted an amount of Rs 5.38 lakhs. From Central station only all the northbound trains are now operated is known.
With the up-gradation of Tambaram as the third terminal trains bound to places like Howrah, Patna and Guwahati could be operated from Tambaram. Land parcels present along with the park station and Fort needs to be acquired from the state government. This was according to the official sources.
The finalization of quantum of land required for the project would be decided by the construction wing of the southern railway and this would be carried out during the location survey. The third terminal works involved augmentation of maintenance capacity of Tambaram Coaching Depot and developing additional platforms for express trains in Tambaram etc. On the northern side of the station, a foot over bridge is being constructed to connect all the platforms.
For doubling Katpadi-Vellore-Thiruvannamalai- Villupuram of 160.1 km, Salem-Karur-Dindigul of 160 km, Erode-Karur of 65 km and Dharmavaram-Pakala- Katpadi routes of 290 km, the RB has approved location survey.
