As recommended by the Seventh Central Pay Commission or CPC, the state government has increased the monthly salaries of faculty belonging to Anna University or AU by 280 percent. This monthly salary hike would be applicable to the constituent colleges of AU, government and aided engineering institutes also.
On 14th January 2019, an order in this regard was issued by the state higher education department and the announcement about a hike in the salaries was made public on Thursday, 23rd January.
From 1st January 2016, the revised pay scale would take notional effect and monetary benefit would be from 1st October 2017. The staffs would be eligible for lump sum amount as salary arrears soon. This was as per the order. For all the educational institutions controlled by AICTE, designations, mode of appointments and pay structure were also revised as per the recommendations of CPC.
It is now mentioned that there would be just 3 designations in the engineering college namely assistant professor, associate professor and professor. Pay matrix involving levels and cells have taken over from the existing pay structure involving pay band or PB and average grade pay or AGP.
Information collected is AGP of Rs 6000, Rs 7000, Rs 8000, Rs 9000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000 have been replaced with academic levels numbered 10, 11, 12, 13 A1, 14 and 15 respectively. There are several cells numbered from 1 to 40 in each academic level and the salaries increase when a teacher moves out of the cell. Promotions to the next academic levels and designations would be decided by a formerly constituted selection committee.
On reimbursement basis, professional development grant, research promotion grant would be eligible for the teachers and they could get Rs 75000 from their universities r institutes etc. For the sake of the generation of revenue, the teachers could engage in consultancy services.
