Getting patent for an invention is not an easy thing!!
In the year 2002, Coimbatore based social entrepreneur Mr Arunachalam Muruganantham made many heads turn when he invented low-cost sanitary pad making the machine. He has got patent now for his 2002 invention.
In the year 2006, he had initiated the process to get a patent is known. Mr Arunachalam expressed his delight about getting patent. He revealed how getting a patent was not easy and it involved lots of documentation and process. He spoke about how he did not know the details when he first applied for the patent. In many locations in India and in other countries, the machines found by Mr Arunachalam have been installed empowering rural women.
He then mentioned that he would issue rights to the machine users as the machine is now in the public domain. It is normal that when a person gets patent rights then he or she would sell or get a licence. Creating awareness amongst youngsters on Intellectual property Rights and patents is very important. He was of the view that the students must learn and understand the significance of the patents and IPR to an individual and society.
Mr Arunachalam Muruganantham wants to help society now. Great!!
