In Chennai, anti-human trafficking clubs launched, women and children to get protection

Crimes against women and children have been on the rise these days and many steps are being taken to prevent this.
One such step was taken on Friday, 31st January 2019 in Chennai city and Anti Human Trafficking Clubs or AHTC was launched.
It was brought out by Mr Ravi, additional director general of police or ADGP that police department would associate with NGOs for the sake of zero human traffickings in the state of TN. Unless the public cooperates with enforcement agencies, human trafficking could not be prevented. This human trafficking is an organised crime similar to drugs and arms trafficking is known.
In the states like TN and West Bengal, human trafficking crimes have been n the rise in recent times and this was according to the statistics. The ADGP added that in reality, human trafficking was less in TN and spoke about how it was important to achieve and prevent zero human traffickings in TN. He concluded that the police would work with the respective NGOs to achieve this. In many districts belonging to TN, there are many anti-human trafficking units already.
Important information is 70 percent of trafficked victims were sexually exploited and majority were women. The reasons for human trafficking are poverty and social backwardness. The need of the hour is to have proactive strategies by the enforcement agencies and every organ of the government must be involved to eliminate this human trafficking. In India, every year, as many as 1.17 lakh children went missing and out of these 41,000 kids remain untraced (exploited).
It was mentioned by Mr Nair, a retired IPS officer, that by working together all the missing kids could be traced easily. In the coming 6 months, in various colleges in TN, ICWO or Indian Community Welfare Organisation would form many AHTC’s.
