Chennai Corporation is now taking a preventive step to avoid communicable diseases in Chennai.
For identifying communicable diseases present in their employees, the corporation of Chennai had begun screening 28,932 employees. Screening would also be done to identify those employees with mental illness also.
Driver street, ward no 61 in Egmore was very busy yesterday, 3rd February 2020 as the commissioner of the corporation, Mr G. Prakash launched a medical camp at this place. From 3rd February to 28th February, there would be medical camps organized in Chennai city for the civic employees and the time would be from 11 am till 2 pm.
It was later mentioned that the corporation employees have been interacting with the residents of Chennai in all the 200 wards and hence the screening of the employees would be important to identify and prevent communicable diseases in the Chennai city.
Medical teams would play their role in screening conservancy workers, malaria control workers, road workers, electrical workers and Amma canteen staffs etc.
Most of the conservancy workers were prone to communicable diseases because they had to clean garbage bins and polluted stormwater drains without proper safety equipment. Within a few years of joining their duty, these conservancy workers could get many health issues. This was as per Mr V. Sukumar Babu, former Chennai Corporation Council floor leader.
He explained how most of the workers were not able to work after the age of 50 and how they need medical assistance and counselling. The illegal sewage connections affect the malaria control workers who clean stormwater drains and the communicable diseases are high in these workers.
Mr Babu was of the view that the corporation of Chennai must treat these workers in good hospitals. The point is many employees are weak and not able to move a tricycle.
