Ever since it was announced that the students of classes 5 and 8 in TN would be writing board examinations, there were lots of issues and there were oppositions from many educationists, teachers and political parties etc.

It is now said that the board examinations would be conducted for the uniform and fair assessment of learning outcomes of the students and there was no need to worry. This was according to Siggy Thomas Vaidhyan, commissioner of school education. It is known that Siggy Thomas Vaidhyan is a 2002 batch IAS officer and was appointed by the government of TN as commissioner of school education in November 2019.

She had asked the parents of the students of classes 5 and 8 not to panic due to the board examinations as the examination results would help the school education department to impart additional training to the students.

The students would not be detained based on the results for the first 3 years and this was according to GO. There would be a common question paper for 60 marks prepared by the DGE or Directorate of School Education for improving the question paper quality and for fair assessment sake. The formative assessments at the school level would contribute to the rest 40 marks.

In the districts there are Cluster Resources Centres levels or CRC levels and evaluation would be done in these centres. In different schools along with CRCs, the answer sheets of the students would be evaluated. This was as per the commissioner of school education.
