An amount of Rs 55 crores is being spent to build Vandalur flyover is known.

By the middle of the month of March, this 711m long flyover in Vandalur GST Road would be completed. It is revealed that the construction of the bridge portion of the flyover is finished and the department of Highways is involved in the building of approach ramps now.

It was pointed out by an official that fly ash has been used to full up ramps and other works like blacktopping, painting and road sign installation would be taken up simultaneously. Work on the stormwater drains and formation of service lanes on either side have been completed by the Department of Highways. This flyover would be present on the ‘T’ junction of the Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road and after completion, the flyover would allow traffic through without the need to wait for the signal.

In the month of September in 2016, the work on 6 lane flyover started and it took more amount of time than planned initially because of factors like the delay in the land acquisition process labour issues, non-availability of sand, round the clock plying of vehicles on the national highway, increase in cement prices etc. Information is the contractor got the land for the project about 8 months later than planned.

Every day, many people visit Vandalur zoo and the department had planned to build a foot-over-bridge for the sake of pedestrians for easy crossing of GST Road. This foot over bridge would come up between flyover and the gate of Vandalur zoo.
