Normally, when a person gets a heart attack then it would be because of a block in the blood flow caused due to the formation of plaque or clot.

Now, the researchers of a lab belonging to Madras Medical Mission Hospital in Chennai have been analyzing many images of the heart and have found out that heart attacks in atleast 30 % younger persons could be caused due to blood vessels rupture also.

It was found out by these researchers that unlike classical heart attacks that might need doctors to dissolve the blood clot and implant a stent many young persons with heart attacks just need medication to dissolve the clot.

For the purpose of confirming the hypothesis, this popular Chennai hospital is working on a multi-centric trial. It is now said that the treatment for heart attacks in young people might be totally different hereafter.

A senior cardiologist Dr Ajith Mullasari was of the view that many questions on heart attacks would be solved by the analysis. Important information is till now the lab has been looking into the structural images of the heart and now would start looking at the heart valves also.

It is worthy to note that this core lab has been named after Chennai city’s senior-most cardiologists Dr Matthew Samuel Kalarickal. More than 15 years have been spent to establish this lab. Point is doctors in this hospital are now looking for treatment protocols, outcomes of angioplasty’s, error percentage and causes for errors in various procedures.
