AICTE: Chemistry not mandatory in +2 to pursue engineering courses!

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced that from the next academic year, Chemistry will not be a mandatory subject in +2  class to pursue engineering courses.

AICTE has made certain changes in the requirements to pursue engineering courses in India. Accordingly, it will be sufficient for the candidates to have studied Maths and Physics and any other elective subject in +2. In other words, apart from Maths and Physics, the elective subjects may be any one of Chemistry, biotechnology, zoology, computer science, information technology, communication training, agriculture, engineering Graphic, or commerce analysis for them to pursue engineering courses.

AICTE has sent this notification to all the approved engineering colleges. An AITEC official explained in this regard that the number of students pursuing engineering courses will go up from the next academic year, Further, a similar change will be carried out next year for JEE (Main) (Joint Entrance Examination).
