The number of voters in Chennai District!

Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Prakash released the final voters’ list for the 16 Assembly constituencies of Chennai District.
Thus, after carrying out the corrections on the voters’ list adopting the special shorter procedure, the final voters’ list for the 16 Assembly Constituencies of Chennai District for the year 2020 was released yesterday (Friday, 14th February).
In a specially organised function, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Prakash released the final voters’ list in the Ripon Building, in the presence of selected political representatives of parties.
Commissioner Prakash informed:
‘Adopting the special shorter corre3ction procedure, the draft final voters’ list was released during December 2019. Assuming the 1st January 2020 as the qualifying date, applications were received for carrying out corrections, additions/deletions, and change of details such as address.
Based on the direct field checking/analysis, these forms were either received or rejected by the Polling Booth Officer. The final voters’ list has been prepared on this.
This final voters’ list can be seen at the Corporation offices and the voting centres. Further, this can be accessed online on the website: 2,284 applications www.elections.tn.gov.in.
3384 applications had been received regarding the removal of names including those who had shifted as per the field survey conducted by the polling officers, those who are dead, and those whose names have been included more than once. After conducting a detailed verification/checking, 1,786 names have been removed from the final voters’ list!
As per the draft released during 2019, there were 38,88,673 voters on the list. Now, after all, correction activities, the number of voters is 39,46,792. As such, there are an additional 58119 voters as compared to the 2019 draft list which constitutes a 1.49% increase.
The maximum number of voters is from Velacherry constituency - 3,06,347 voters. Port - 1,73,337 voters. The number of voters, those who had completed 18 years of age recently and newly added as voters is 19,686.
