An ambitious completely integrated group transport system is being visualized and to be set up using all the existing transport systems Metro Train, Electric train (Beach-Tambaram-Chingleput), Southern Railway, the Greater Chennai Corporation, and the Metro Transport Corporation and to optimize the investments of these and derive maximum facilities using their operations to form a special ’Integrated group Transport System’ for the Chennai Metro City!
In a Phase, all these transportation systems will be taken individually for reformation and optima operations. Subsequently, all these departments will be integrated with the formation of a strengthened and integrated council which will facilitate proper share of the fund resources among these transport agencies.
As for the water resources, an integrated water management system which will manage the water resources, address the flooding and drinking water shortage problems which are long-pending complaints in Chennai Metro City.
Other major developments planned under this integrated water management council will include:
- 24-hours water supply throughout Chennai Metro City
- Collecting drain water and recycling the same for usage
- To make CMWSSB (Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) a world-class service agency
- To prevent/reduce the damages caused by floods.
Further, under the integrated Chennai Metro City Management Council, the sections of urban administration and Financial resources will be managed jointly by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Chennai Metro Development Authority (CMDA).
It is expected funds up to the US $ 100 Crores will be received from the World Bank financial assistance.
All approvals for the above ambitious plans which will change the entire Chennai Metro City lifestyle in all aspects will be obtained in the financial year 2020-21.
