GCC has submitted a detailed proposal to TNIDB for a 900 crores project to transform Broadway bus terminus with demarcated space for bus bays, multi-storey parking complex, commercial space and rail connectivity etc. Sound’s incredible isn’t it!!

It is now revealed that the Broadway bus terminus would become a hub that would connect public transport by road, metro rail and suburban rail etc. It is known that Broadway is close to Chennai Beach suburban station, High court metro station, Fort suburban station.

Point is it would emerge as the terminal for MRTS once it is handed over to CMRL. In future, railway stations might get linked to the bus terminus by means of a skywalk. There would be parking space available for parking of around 2000 cars and 2600 two-wheelers in the middle of the planned terminal. The parking space would be provided by a 21 storey building.

It was brought out by a senior official that presently many cars and two-wheelers get parked on the roads in and around Parry’s and HC etc leading to traffic congestion. Haphazard parking on the roads would be prevented by the parking area at the basement of this above said huge building. On the lower and upper ground, there would be bus bays and it is now said that GCC has proposed 80 to 100 bus bays in the re-modelled bus terminus. An amount of Rs 20 per hour would be collected for the parking of two-wheelers and an amount of Rs 50 per hour for four wheelers.
