Chennai engineers to visit East to study transport infrastructure

The Chennai Corporation will send a team of engineers to China, Hong Kong and Singapore to study their public transport. The decision was taken with a view to reduce traffic congestion in Chennai and have a better infrastructure system.

The team comprising of engineers R. Jayaraman, D. Rajasekhar, S. Rajendran, S. Sudhakar, A.S. Murugan, R. Manoharan and R. Srinivasan will visit Hong Kong, Singapore, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. They will study the models in these countries and bring back their recommendations for the application in Chennai, which will include public bicycle sharing, bus rapid transit system and inter-modal integration. The study is said to cost around Rs. 20 lakh.
