The Commissioner of the Transport Department, Thenkasi Jawahar, has ordered that vehicles manufactured with BS-4 technology must be registered in RTO offices in Tamil Nadu.

There is a steep increase in the number of vehicles on the roads every passing year! This has led to increase air pollution and also global warming conditions.

As such, a number of remedial actions have been initiated. As a part of this,it has been planned to introduce electric buses in the State Transport Corporations.

Both central and state governments have been expediting the above initiatives.

Further, it has been planned to introduce more electric cars and 2-wheelers. In this instance, various concessions are being offered to manufacture electric vehicles on behalf of the government.

Earlier, the High Court had ordered that in order to reduce the air pollution extent, vehicles manufactured under BS-4 technology should not be registered after 31st March.

Accordingly, these BS-4 technology-based vehicles can be registered in Tamil Nadu only until end March.

In this situation, the commissioner of the Tamil Nadu Transport Department, Thenkasi Jawahar, has sent a circular to all RTO offices. This mentions:

The central Transport Department Commission hasnotified that vehicles manufactured with BS-4 technology must not be registered after 31st March. Further, the High Court has also ordered on this.

Accordingly, the vehicles manufactured with BS-4 technology cannot be registered after 31st March. Further, no time extension has been given in this regard.

In this regard, RTO officers and the Motor Vehicle Analysts must organise regular review meetings with the vehicle dealers in the respective divisions and explain the situation and the above order  and the dealers must stop selling BS-4 technology-based vehicle after 31st March. They must also create an awareness among the public regarding this!

Which fuel to use?
With an objective to reduce the extent of air-pollution, vehicles manufacture with BS-6 technology only can be registered from April. So, presently, the vehicle manufacturers are selling vehicles manufactured with BS-6 technology. The Oil manufacturing corporations, in turn, are engaged in manufacturing the fuel to be used in BS-6 technology-based vehicles to be sold.
